How could Mod 2 be due? We just turned in Mod 1.
I remember sitting in class, hearing that the Mod 2 report was due in two weeks and thinking "how could it be due so soon, we've had barely any lab days." This was because I was focusing so much on Mod 1 until it was due during spring break, and the presentations were the week after, so it seemed like the beginning of Mod 2 was a blur. At first, this assignment seemed super daunting. Every time I thought about writing a 14 page research article, I was pretty sure that wouldn't actually be able to it.
Once I started sitting down and writing it during the long weekend, it felt even more daunting because I didn't know how to effectively piece together so many pieces of information into a cohesive storyline. But, I took it piece by piece, starting with the methods section, then the results, the intro, and then the discussion and abstract. I found that breaking it up made it feel easier to see progress and the writing logically fell into place.
But this assignment took forever! I spent almost 11 hours straight working on the Mod 2 report on Saturday on top of the countless hours I've spent on it throughout the week. I have never spent so many hours doing the same assignment in one sitting. I was impressed with my determination and my ability to focus on an assignment for so long. But, in hindsight, I wished I organized my time better this week, and didn't have to spend so many hours consecutively working on it. I thought I would get a lot more done during the long weekend, but I spent so much time going back and figuring out what we did before spring break, which seems like forever ago.
Now the Mod 2 report is turned in, I am so relieved. I have never felt so accomplished from an assignment. I am proud of how my writing skills have progressed and I feel more confident in writing about my research. I feel more prepared for my internship over the summer because I know I'll be able to communicate my research with other scientists and be able to write about. I am also looking forward to the rest of the assignments in this class, which seem to be more relaxed and more opened ended, which is exciting.
