Woah I actually get this paper
It was a pretty incredible feeling for me to feel like I completely understood a paper and could provide my own commentary. Typically when I read research papers, I'm scanning the abstract or discussion for key concepts, not necessarily to understand but just to know. With my paper on a talazoparib implant, after reading it a few times a really putting in the time to craft a story, I finally got it. It was kind of sad that even though I got what the paper was saying, it still was not a very good paper. Implants are obviously hella problematic for metastatic cancers and need to be used in a different indication. But by knowing this is gave me a lot of confidence when going up to present. I am the type of person that is nervous to speak publicly until I'm up there - and then I really enjoy it. I was well prepared and knew my paper, which helped when questions came around. Also, I've never used a clicker and that gave me freedom to keep my eyes up towards the audience. All in all, I really enjoyed preparing and giving my presentation - it was also really great to learn about a few different cancer therapeutics and pathways from my classmates.
