Statistically Significant Stress

I am still surprised that my teammate and I finished our data summary. I have always seen scientific papers and dreaded the idea that one day, I too would have to write one. They're soooo long and tedious that sometimes I don't even understand what they're trying to say.

When I saw we had a data summary due (in addition to our other homework) I started to internally freak out. This was definitely the beast of Mod 1 that had to be slain in order to reach Mod 2. We started with our methods which I felt good about because it required the least brain work since it was basically just condensing our procedure. Then we started to analyze the data, which was sad, to say the least. At first glance, I was so excited! OMG! We got significant data! Until Yue, my lab partner pointed out we couldn't have negative enzymatic activity...

Okay, that's fine... I didn't want to find a ligand that bound to FKBP12 anyway...

What the heck were we even going to write in this data summary if we had no data?!?!?!

I was totally lost, but in talking with other students I realized that everyone was having the same problems! I don't know why it was comforting to know everyone else had failed too, but it really was.

Yue and I pulled through though and did our best to talk about our data even though it wasn't super relevant. We also tried to talk about trends because we couldn't talk about the significance of our data. I feel like that's what this class is all about. The assignments look scary, but if you just trudge through it's totally doable and you look back and see all of the work you've been able to do.

I honestly never thought I'd be able to write a scientific paper, but in retrospect, it wasn't that bad! My partner and I worked really well together and we were able to use a lot of the work we did for homework in our summary, but I'm sooooo scared for Mod 2 when I will be 100% on my own.

All of that aside, I totally know we can do this! Good luck everyone! <3
